THE POST-APOCALYPTIC SUPERNATURAL CREATURE MEME
Because crossing genres is fun and profitable.
THE BASIC SETUP: Congratulations! You've survived the annihilation of the majority of humanity... Which means that you're now a part of a world containing mostly creatures that used to pretend to be human. Vampires, werewolves, demons wearing human skin, aliens, robots... Take your pick, there's a wide variety, most of whom were entirely ignorant of each other until now. Pick some scenario options below and go wild!
APOCALYPSE:
How did the world come to an end? Here's a few ideas to get you started.
1. NUCLEAR WAR - Nice job, humanity. In the course of your endless warring, you've managed to bomb yourselves into a wasteland. What kind of creatures might have been created in the aftermath of the fallout?
2. PLAGUE - Whether it was intentional (such as a biological weapon) or not, some kind of infection has spread and killed off most of humanity. What is it about your inhumanity that allowed you to survive?
3. ZOMBIES - You know what this is. You know what they are. And while you're strong enough to stand against one or two because of your nature... But is it only a matter of time before you're overwhelmed?
4. CLIMATE CHANGE - All those scientific predictions were right. The ice caps have melted, and half the remaining land is too dry and hot to live on. Where will you go? Where can you go?
5. ALIEN INVASION - Humanity didn't stand a chance against their new conquerers. You, on the other hand, might have enough power to stand a chance... If only you could reach the heavens.
6. FROSTY NIGHTMARE - It's more than an ice age. Snow, snow, snow, no matter where you go - better find some way to keep warm. (And maybe someone to keep warm with.)
7. MAGICAL APOCALYPSE - Humanity might not have known about magic, but that doesn't mean that it didn't exist. And magic is a force entirely capable of ending the world, in ways exotic and alien to even the most over-prepared of apocalypse fanatics. What kind of damage has this unpredictable force done to the world?
8. LEFT BEHIND - Humanity has gone to the stars, leaving their home planet - and all the ecological damage they've caused - behind. Will the wilds reclaim what remains of human cities, or will you?
9. THE RECKONING - Whether it was by meteor, volcano, or some other happening, a cloud of dust blankets the sky, choking off all the light of the sun and leaving you to survivethe dark. Who knows when it will end, and if there will be anything left when it does?
10. THE MORMONS WERE RIGHT - One day, you woke up, and there just weren't any humans anymore. Sinners, saints, and everything in between - just vanished. Just what happened here?
11. WILD CARD.
CREATURES:
Just what are you that you survived where humanity could not?
1. THE UNDEAD - Vampires, ghosts, liches. Anything that used to be human, died, and came back Somehow Wrong. Can't kill what isn't alive.
2. THE CREATED - You aren't human, but you were made to look like one. Whether that makes you a hommuculus of some sort, an android, or something Frankensteinesque, you didn't get a chance to figure out how to be human before they all vanished on you.
3. THE ANGELIC - Whether you fell from heaven, sauntered down of your own accord, or were sent here on a mission, you were once a creature of infinite goodness and light... Or at least that's what humanity thought of you.
4. THE INFERNAL - Or perhaps it was below that you came up from below. Whether you sought to punish humanity or make some dark bargain with them, your targets are all gone now. What to do, what to do...
5. THE FAE - Creatures of the woods and wild places, slowly driven out by humanity's ever-expanding technology. Did your people finally strike back to reclaim the planet, reacting as faeries wronged are infamous for doing, or did you have nothing to do with it at all?
6. THE ALIEN - You weren't of the Earth at all, but something from beyond the atmosphere. Maybe you were sent to study humanity, or your people came to hide among them and escape something else. It's going to be hard to do any of those things with humanity gone, though.
7. THE ANCIENT - Once, in ancient times, your kind was common. Dragons, sphinxes, unicorns, giants - to humanity, you've long since been the stuff of legends. With them gone, is it finally safe for you and your kind to be yourselves again, after so very long?
8. THE SHIFTING - whether it was as a wolf in a pack or some other creature, you have the ability to change between human and some kind of animal. Is it your animal form that saved you, or does a werewolf have just as much to fear in this world as a man?
9. THE NIGHTMARISH - Humanity's perception of the world is limited - and there are all sorts of beings that exist in the gaps, outside of the three dimensions humans call home. You that hail from such a place - where will you go and what will you do now?
10. THE SURVIVORS - Not all of humanity was wiped out, and you're one of the (un)fortunate few who remains. Is it because you have some kind of supernatural ability yourself - a mutant or a mage - or because you happened to have been found by something more powerful that can protect you?
11. WILD CARD.
SCENARIOS:
What are you doing in this wasteland, that you have found another survivor?
1. DAY ONE - Whatever happened to humanity, they were here yesterday, or maybe the day before. The apocalypse is still fresh. Who is this other survivor, and why have the two of you been left alone in the world?
2. FORAGING - whatever you are, chances are you still need resources of some sort to survive. When you encounter someone else, will you find cooperation or conflict for those resources?
3. MONSTERS - Be they irradiated animals, the victims of a zombie plague, invading aliens... It's just not an apocalypse without monsters.
4. THE SETTLEMENT - After who knows how long of a journey, you've made your way to a town, or what passes for a town nowadays. What and who will you find there?
5. OLD FRIENDS - You never thought you'd see them again. Did you know each other because you're the same creature, or is finding out that they weren't human either a shock? How goes your reunion?
6. ROAD TRIP - Wherever you were before, you can't stay. If you hit the road, maybe you can find other survivors, or answers to what happened - and if you do it together, then you can watch each other's backs.
7. I NEED A FAVOR - The other person has something you need. Whether it's a good, a service, or them - how are you going to get it?
8. THE HEIGHT OF ROMANCE - You're the only people left in the world. Maybe. But close enough, so naturally you do what the only people left in the world are going to do.
9. GROUND ZERO - Whatever kind of apocalypse it was, it started somewhere. This is the place. Did you come here seeking answers - or did you have something to do with what happened?
10. ESCAPE TO EDEN - Supposedly, somewhere, there's an untouched paradise. Whether you sought it out or not, you've managed to find it. What will you do with this knowledge? Will you stay here, or return to the wastes you know?
