SHAPESHIFTER DRAGON AU MEME

I was going to write a bunch of prompts for this but you know what? Fuck it. You all know why you're here. Just remember to content warn your smut, my fellow sinners.

TLDR Dragons can shapeshift, have been hiding among humanity, some of them for a very long time. Culturally there tends to be a split between the ones that stay in one place and build a power base versus the ones that are more nomadic and wander from place to place. Also hoarding instincts are weird and sometimes latch onto things that are very definitely not Typical Hoards.

[His claws clatter on the roof and he moves closer, curious.]

Well, no, not in this part of the world. But we're far from the only dragons in it.

[He half hangs down to look Izunia better in the eye.]

Her name's Corva.

[There's the sound of Izunia hopping down from his stepstool, and another meow, before he lifts the cat up into Xander's view under the vent. She's a fairly small thing, and completely black with eyes just a little too green to be called gold.]

Her dinner is running a bit late, so of course she must air her complaints until the situation is rectified.

[Considering a giant predator is right there by the vent, and close enough to sniff at her a bit, she seems to be handling it very well. Which shocks Xander]

You actually manage to keep a pet?

Domestic cats are surprisingly fearless in many ways.

[Corva wiggles and mews again, and he sets her down.]

It can take some searching to find one that's unintimidated by our kind, but it's not impossible. She's hardly my first.

[There's the sound of the RV's fridge opening and the clatter of dishes.]

I don't recall any exact matches offhand, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. In spite of my age, I don't know everything. I've definitely encountered feathered dragons in general before - furred ones, too.

[He settles down again, close enough to the vent to still be able to speak with his guest]

I didn't realize it was possible.

It does take a particular temperament in cats, at least. My brother swears by hand-raised fancy pigeons, though, so I suppose there's probably potential in anything.

[There's one more mew and then the sound of a dish being set down.]

[It's probably mostly curiosity about the kind of man who leads a small black cat on a leash harness around a rest stop that gets Yusuke's attention first. He seems content to let kitty lead where she will for a while, until some other family's large barking dog frightens her. Then Izunia scoops the cat up in one smooth motion and glares at the dog in a way that immediately causes it to back down. Hmm, isn't there something unusual about that...?

Regardless, the man in the surprisingly fancy black coat sets his black cat back in his equally fancy RV, only pausing to pull some switch that unfolds an awning from the side of it. Now, then, where did he stash those chairs...]

[Long ago, there was this really nasty dragon called Grima. Extraordinarily powerful, enough to engender a full-blown god complex, and bearing a profound contempt for humanity, he ended up causing quite a lot of trouble until a certain other, equally formidable dragon intervened to help put him down. His brood, however, survived him, and delved into the darkest arts seeking to resurrect their great father.

After untold centuries, an ideal vessel, the very reincarnation of Grima, was finally born — only for the hatchling's mother to suffer a crisis of maternal conscience, smuggle her away before the dark rites could be performed, and raise her outside of the reach of her clan. Robin's mother told her nothing of her birthright and made an effort to raise her as "normally" as is possible. It was only a chance encounter with members of the Grimleal, including her own father, that led to her learning the truth... at which point, she threw it back in their face, refusing to give herself to Grima and rejecting their belief in the inferiority of mortals.

Even awakened to her true nature, Robin is almost entirely uninterested in the affairs and intrigues of dragonkind, which is probably just as well since Grima was an asshole and boy howdy did he and his descendants make a lot of enemies! She enjoys the company of humans and is perfectly content to live among them. (She hoards friends.) She's a bit of a human history buff, military history in particular, and presently works as a teacher.

She avoids assuming her dragon form at all costs, because... well. Fell Dragon. No thanks.]

Cor Leonis - Final Fantasy XV - OTA

[Cor tends to come across as one of those no-nonsense, grumpy warrior types when you first meet him. Can you blame him, though, when he's been serving the Lucis Caelum line as protector and friend since he was barely a young adult? He's bluntly honest when he feels the need to talk, and it would be unwise to make him reach for his faithful blade if you value your life.

That said, though, he tends to soften a little towards young dragons and friendly humans. It's around those that he will show his small smiles and rather dry sense of humor. He uses his human military rank to justify his main horde - books and scrolls on how to make and wield swords - but he also has a second, smaller horde of certain human families that he plays guardian to. His own full-dragon form is that of a bronze adult dragon, bordering on elder adult status.]

Huh. Don't tell me that's how he sent messages before phones?

[His muzzle is just visible over the lip of the vent, and his mouth twitches just enough to show the tips of his teeth- a subtle smile even while his voice was as stern as usual]

Well, of course. These days you're just as likely to find him at a state fair poultry show with one perched on his shoulder - he's got quite the affinity for birds.

[The image of a powerful wyrm... at a state fair... is enough to make Xander laugh, bright and booming]

[founderinglight]

[A deep chuckle that probably vibrates the horn Prompto is perched on.]

Not impossible, but it's significantly more likely that you're just more evidence that dragons are an affront to the human concept of taxonomy.

[And he hasn't even seen how Ardyn dresses.]

I love Ardyn dearly, but I must confess, I have questions about his taste sometimes.

[There's another small clink of a dish being set down, and the sound of the stepstool being put away.]

Watch your nose.

[He laughs a little more then shuffles back]

Yes, yes of course.

[founderinglight]

[There's a tingle of magic, and then a small, serpentine dragon slides through the gap onto the roof, growing to something a little less ridiculously tiny once he's through. Izunia is all scales and spines, a reddish violet like a late evening sunset, and at a size comparable to Xander, could almost be called delicate.

Of course, it's equally clearly not his full size; his head alone is probably at least the size of the RV. He flaps his wings idly, stretching them out after who-knows-how-long of disuse.]

Surprise.

[Surprise indeed]

Ah, you didn't have to come out, Sir. These grounds are protected of course, so no humans should see, but...

[founderinglight]

And you don't have to call me sir, but I feel as though I'm going to have about as much success at convincing you of that.

[Another couple of flaps before he curls up in a wide loop, tail crossed over his front legs.]

The one thing that I would consider a downside of my lifestyle is that I rarely get to socialize with others of our kind, especially in this form.

[Akira knows Yusuke, so he's used to his random drawing urges, even at the cafe when they were enjoying drinks and company, so he wasn't insulted when his friend went silent. Instead he just watches curiously.

Yusuke is one of the few dragons he knows on a personal level, even well enough that he's seen his hoard (and even brought gifts he's nicked that don't fit his own Aesthetic) and shared sleeping space with. Akira himself is smaller then his friend, and a lot less colorful. All feather and fur, and built low to the ground like a ferret. Not the most majestic creature, but a wonder to see in motion- more agile and brutal on the ground then most of their kind were even in the air.]

[One of the servants came to him in a flustered state- all upset by this stubborn girl. So she gets Xander himself approaching]

I rarely do as well. Too many of us in a small space lends to spats.
