SHAPESHIFTER DRAGON AU MEME

I was going to write a bunch of prompts for this but you know what? Fuck it. You all know why you're here. Just remember to content warn your smut, my fellow sinners.

TLDR Dragons can shapeshift, have been hiding among humanity, some of them for a very long time. Culturally there tends to be a split between the ones that stay in one place and build a power base versus the ones that are more nomadic and wander from place to place. Also hoarding instincts are weird and sometimes latch onto things that are very definitely not Typical Hoards.

[Though perhaps he should, if that's what Xander's mind immediately jumps to. He's under no delusions; someone who lives around Garon constantly would know him far better than a wanderer who only crosses this way every few decades.]

I fear that Garon would try to manipulate him in some way, and Noctis would respond with something provoking. He doesn't take well to attempts to control him.

I could see that more from father's... advisers. Either way, it would only benefit him to do so.

["Shut your mouth, Xander" He thinks- he is saying too much. But he often disagreed with his father's orders. He obeyed because it was his duty, but that didn't always mean he liked it... and obeying didn't always mean following the spirit. All four of them had gone behind his back to try and... lessen things when they could.]

In the grand scheme, the two are not much different. He's bound for the Nox Fleurets instead, to get some experience of the world in a safer environment.

[Another old family with a surprisingly close association to the Lucis Caelums, given their relative lack of interbreeding.

As for Izunia, he's sincerely considering assassinating Garon and setting Xander up immediately, not that it shows on his face.]

[Prompto Argentum is definitely 100% human and not a draconic abomination of magic and technology in any way, shape, or form. The fact that he loves and gets along with the dragons in his life and has a tendency to wander after shiny things and treasure is just coincidence, clearly. He's normal!

But also, when he finally--and unwittingly--transforms, he's a slim, feathered dragon, largely grey with some darker mottling like freckles. The undersides of his wings have a fascinating silvery sheen. He's small even for his age--about the same size as he is as a human--and absurdly fragile, as far as dragons go. But he is very, very fast, keen-eyed, and resistant to extreme cold.]

Hmm, then I wish him well in his pilgrimage.

[His tea is finished, so he sets the cup down and stands, bowing again. The little frownline between his eyes is even deeper then when he arrived]

I will tell father that you only intend to travel through- likely you will be followed until you leave this area, but I assume you already expected that.

Of course. And probably some distance beyond that, as well. It's late enough that there's not much point trying to gain further miles this evening, though - would it be a great imposition if I remained here overnight?

I don't see it being an issue. I will set my own guard so you won't be bothered.

[Still, he looks unsure... and makes his way out before Izunia can plant even more doubt in his head]

I presume only that you're a better man than your father.

[It's said to the empty table across from him as the door closes, but there's a faint smile on his face.]

[As promised, no one bothers the RV into the evening. Likely because as soon as the sun sets there's a heavy thump on the roof as someone lands and settles on there. The guard, most likely?]

[...Well far be it from him to be rude. It's not very long until the air vent at the top lifts, revealing Izunia balanced (presumably) on a stepstool.

Seems he's not quite asleep yet, even if there's no obvious lights on inside.]

Can I get you anything?

[The dragon on his roof looks up in surprise, though if not for it's bright eyes it'd be hard to see at all in the dark, it's own heafty form being sky blacks and purples. Even though it is currently small enough to not crush the vehicle, it's clearly not it's full form]

No, it's fine.

[That sure the fuck is Xander, voice still recognizable even with different vocal cords]

[...Ah. 'Set my own guard' indeed.

Izunia's eyes are nearly as bright in the dark, and the slit pupils are wide - he's clearly not ashamed to use shapeshifting for his own benefit in even minor things.]

Are you certain?

[Mornin', Dragrandpa. Or probably closer to noon, knowing the line of Lucis. A fluffy little macaroni noodle flutters up to perch moodily on Izunia's horn, curling his tail around the girth of it for additional balance and sighing.]

Very. Please, try to rest. It would be shameful if you didn't feel comfortable on our property and as our guest.

[Definitely closer to noon, knowing the line of Lucis. If it weren't for the sigh, it's not certain that the serpentine, reddish dragon would have even noticed Prompto before he spoke.

...Are you planning to stay up there all night?

[...Okay, that's mournful young adult for "yes, absolutely."]

Why wouldn't you be?

[He can't really look at Prompto perched on his horn, but the intention is there in the way his gaze does swing back as far as it will go.]

It's not abnormal. I'm largely nocturnal.

[That explains a great deal about Nohr, actually.]

We're mostly crepuscular as a clan - dawn and especially sunset.

[And then, if Xander's ears are keen enough - a meow.

His ears don't really have to be that keen, actually.]

[Whether in dragon form or human guise, Yusuke is forever elegant. Tall, slender, long-necked (just much longer in his real form), both scaled and feathered when he drops the illusion. He's rather proud of his colors-- indigo and deep blue, with hints of dark purple and silver-- and preens just enough to keep himself neat. He's young as dragons go, but he carries himself with dignity and grace.

It's all the more odd if you somehow manage to see him draped over his hoard, though. He collects anything beautiful: paintings, statues, jewelry, pottery. It doesn't matter if it's expensive or cheap, as long as it fits his aesthetic.

That doesn't quite explain the odd little pile of plush lobsters, though.

But out in the world, Yusuke spends his time either searching for more beautiful things to add to his collection or people-watching while he sketches. Humans are interesting but dangerous in their own way, and other dragons... well, it's pleasant but rare when he encounters another of his kind.

So he might be drawing you when you notice him in some random spot. Maybe in the park, or at the coffee shop where you're getting your morning quadruple espresso that would kill a human? You could be on a subway train, or a rest stop near a highway. He appears in the oddest places. Hopefully you aren't offended by a stranger drawing you?]
